When will Ubuntu 26.04LTS be made available for Droplets?

Posted on April 27, 2026

Hi, I was just wondering when DigitalOcean is planning to make Ubuntu 26.04 LTS available for Droplets? All of my current Droplets are running 22.04 and I’m planning to migrate them all to 26.04, just trying to plan in advance when I can get started. Thanks!

Hi there,

Good timing on the question. Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, was just released on April 23, 2026.

DigitalOcean typically makes new Ubuntu LTS versions available for Droplets within a few weeks of the official release, but there is no public timeline from their side yet for 26.04. Worth keeping an eye on the DigitalOcean changelog as that is where new OS images get announced.

One thing worth knowing: the first point release, Ubuntu 26.04.1, is scheduled for August 2026, and that is typically when Canonical enables direct upgrades from the previous LTS. For a production migration, waiting for 26.04.1 is usually the safer move anyway since point releases tend to be more stable and iron out issues from the initial launch.

In the meantime, I think that 22.04 LTS is supported until April 2027, so there is no urgency on your end.

Heya, @cindyames

All LTS versions are released once everything is tested and running smoothly. This is currently in development and there is no ETA but it is expected to be released in the near future. If you wish I can check this for you our team and will get back to you.
