How to set up Cloudflare load balancer with DigitalOcean Application

Posted on October 14, 2025

Hello! I have another server for my application outside DigitalOcean and want to use Cloudflare load balancer to ensure stability and performance in different regions.

I have set up a static ingress IP for my app in DigitalOcean and use it in the load balancer along with host header, however I keep getting 1000 Cloudflare error when connecting to it, because the ingress IP is of Cloudflare network.

What are the ways to use Cloudflare load balancer in this case?

Hi there,

It sounds like the issue might be related to how App Platform handles traffic through its own load balancer and CDN layer, which could conflict with Cloudflare’s load balancer in front.

I’m not entirely sure if there’s a supported workaround for this setup, so it might be best to reach out to support. They can confirm if Cloudflare load balancing is compatible in your case: https://www.digitalocean.com/support/
